Google loves Drupal

Some time ago I read a comment that "Google loves Drupal". It was conveying the fact that Drupal sites seem to get good prominence in Google.

I am proud of how my sites come up in Google. At time of writing it comes up on google.com.au in top position for a search on the keyword "Drupal". That has been the case consistently since a week or two after the site went live. Now it is also creeping slowly but surely up the international google.com listings.

A few weeks back I had to go through 5 or 6 pages of the international listings before I found drupal.com.au. Today it is coming up at 6th position on the 2nd page, or 15th overall.

One of my client sites is www.englishmastery.com.au. I re-built that site for drupal-4.7 some weeks ago. The client is desirous that it achieves good prominence for searches on "English Tuition Sydney". That is an extremely competitive keyword combination. Lot's of sites want to be found via those keywords.

Before I rebuilt englishmastery.com.au it was languishing way down the pages, even on the Australian Google. On 5th June the google crawler re-evaluated the site and its prominence shot up dramatically. It now appears on the second page of the Australian listing for "English Tuition Sydney". That is a phenomenal improvement and a very welcome result. The client is happy and so am I. I do not rest there though. I have promised the client I will get it up to the first page; and that is what I intend to do.

The architecture of Drupal helps this S.E.Optimisation exercise but there is more. I carefully craft the text on my sites where necessary in order to gain google leverage. It does not just happen. After 15 years on the Internet I guess I have learnt a little about how things work.

These good results have been obtained with very little linking into my sites thus far. Links into a site are considered nowadays as the primary way of improving your site prominence in Google. But it is not all. Building your site from Drupal seems to help; and having a professional craft your content - especially your home page content - is invaluable, and thus very cost-effective.
